As a child, I was fascinated with the solitude and sensual experience of watching kites fly in the sky. I would spend hours in my back yard, flying my many different kites in the sky, always delighted with how high I could get them to go, but also with how long I could get them to stay up.
The experience of flying kites allows me to enjoy the solitude with the object in the air. I wanted to relive and share this experience with my peers, and together, enjoy the powerful sensual experience of seeing a kite float in the sky. A flying kite requires total concentration to simultaneously keep it in the air and watch it soar high above. This performance explored childhood play, but also the solitude and loneliness the experience of kite flying can have. It is a very powerful meditative state that allows us to connect with our body and the environment that surrounds us.
