My mother’s role is as a catalyst between the audience members and my work, where she is placed physically within the work or guides the audience through a performance as the familiar icon of mother. Her personality can bring a level of trust and validity to my work, yet she too is becoming my work. The role of the mother has been a representation of the caretaker as well as the individual who passes down tradition, culture, and history of family. I see my mother as a figure that is a representation of my past, and the keeper of my memories up until I enunciated my sexuality.
